INSPIRED BY MAKING A DIFFERENCE

“Success comes to those who dedicate everything to their passion in life. To be successful, it is also very important to be humble …”
—A. R. Rahman

“Our greatest strength is self-power, motivating ourselves through hardships, opportunities, and changes. It’s essential for obtaining resources and guidance in life’s journey. We shape our own lives and help others along the way.”

With a wealth of experience spanning several decades, I have had the opportunity to work across a multitude of domains, including change management, utilities, gas and electric, information technology (IT), higher education, K-12 education, training, consulting, sales, learning and development, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). My expertise extends to instructional design, e-learning, virtual instruction, curriculum development, and project and account management. In each of these roles, I have consistently implemented proven, results-oriented, and data-driven solutions that adhere to industry best practices, resulting in successful outcomes.

My strong educational background has equipped me with knowledge, skills, and aptitudes that are essential in applying emotional intelligence principles. This expertise is fundamental in forging meaningful relationships, partnerships, and collaborations. Central to my ethos is a steadfast commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This commitment not only forms a core part of my values but also remains a top priority, ensuring that all my interactions are conducted with utmost respect and consideration for others.

Through the implementation of scalable training, coaching, and mentoring approaches, I actively promote and celebrate a team-focused approach. My ultimate goal is to play a pivotal role in the development of innovative breakthrough concepts, interventions, initiatives, and applications that yield data-driven evidence-based results and solutions. These solutions are designed to directly align with organizational visionary missions and objectives.

As a leader, teacher, trainer, and consultant, I firmly believe in the essence of diversity and inclusion. It goes beyond merely recognizing individuals who are different; it’s about instilling a sense of belonging, ensuring that each person feels valued and accepted for who they are. This perspective is pivotal in my role, as it guides me in advocating for underserved and oppressed populations, like the LGBTQ+ community and people with disabilities, across various cultures, races, and ethnicities.

In my journey, I’ve learned that inclusion is not just about acknowledgment; it’s about actively creating an environment where everyone, regardless of their background or challenges, feels they truly belong. My aim is to foster spaces where diversity is celebrated, and equality is not just a goal but a lived reality.

My commitment to this belief is unwavering, as I recognize the importance of making every individual feel seen, heard, and respected. This involves understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by different groups. I continuously strive to integrate these values into every aspect of my work and interactions, ensuring that everyone I engage with feels an integral part of the community and their contributions are genuinely valued.

In this ever-evolving world, my goal remains steadfast: to champion an inclusive society where diversity is not just acknowledged but embraced as a strength. My actions and teachings are a testament to this commitment, as I guide others towards a more equitable and inclusive future.

Emotional intelligence is a fundamental element that guides the behaviors of every human being. It’s imperative to recognize that emotional intelligence is a key factor in developing long-lasting, trusting relationships, which in turn lead to high levels of performance. As I lead and collaborate as a contributing team player, I am mindful of maintaining a growth mindset. This involves being attuned to my own emotions and the emotions of others.

In my approach, I ensure that people are addressed with this essential perspective, being open-minded and ready for change as a change agent. This mindset is particularly crucial in fostering adoption and decision-making in times of uncertainty, ensuring that everyone understands we are working for the collective good. By doing so, we develop long-lasting and high-performance relationships in both personal and professional situations. This philosophy shapes my interactions and decisions, continually driving me to be an effective leader and team member.

I view teaching as a dynamic, interactive, and collaborative process that fosters holistic transformation through learning and inquiry. My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in Socratic principles, which inspire me to employ inquiry and probing techniques to expand my students’ knowledge. With experience in both K-12 and higher education settings, I have honed my approach over the years.

Throughout my teaching journey, my strategy has consistently revolved around engaging students in purposeful and intellectually stimulating discussions. This approach allows us to explore issues, collaborate on solutions, and generate fresh ideas collectively. I firmly believe that education should equip students with critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate their future and address global challenges effectively.

I hold a strong conviction that teaching should be a collaborative, captivating, and inspiring process, encouraging lifelong learning and the transfer of skills to society. My ultimate goal as an educator is to impart knowledge and skills that empower my students to become disciplined, innovative, and adaptable leaders. To achieve this, I embrace the role of a lifelong learner, committed to a path of continuous growth that deeply influences my academic and scholarly pursuits.

In my teaching and professional journey, I interact with students from diverse backgrounds, societies, countries, and cultures. In these interactions, I am dedicated to upholding the principles of equity, inclusion, and justice. I actively engage in inclusion and diversity initiatives within my scholarly, teaching, mentoring, and professional endeavors. Recognizing the growing importance of addressing the needs of marginalized or underrepresented groups, I have taken leadership roles to champion their rights and inclusion.

My leadership approach emphasizes accessibility and an open-door policy to welcome all students, teachers, principals, faculty, and senior administrators. I strive to cultivate a culture of respect and inclusion, ensuring that everyone feels valued and heard. Building upon the valuable skills I’ve acquired, my commitment to continuous learning sustains my role as a scholarly leader with diverse perspectives.

As a lifelong learner, I actively champion the rights of minorities, people of color, and marginalized groups. My aspiration is to be remembered as an instructional leader and motivator who continuously inspires and empowers individuals from all backgrounds to pursue their dreams while embracing the journey of lifelong learning.

My philosophy for change management, especially when applying the ADDIE model and addressing uncertainty, centers on a structured approach underpinned by thorough communication and flexibility.

In the Analysis phase, the focus is on deeply understanding the organizational context and the specific needs that drive the change. This involves communicating effectively to gather insights, identify the ‘why’ behind the change, and pinpoint potential uncertainties. Addressing these uncertainties from the outset through clear and open dialogue is crucial for developing a resilient strategy.

During the Design stage, the goal is to outline the desired outcomes and plan the pathway to achieve them. This involves crafting strategies that are not only effective but also adaptable. Communication plays a key role here, ensuring that the design of the change initiative is understood and accepted across the organization.

In the Development phase, the emphasis is on creating the actual change tools, processes, or systems. This stage requires continuous communication with stakeholders to refine these tools and ensure they are tailored to meet the dynamic needs of the organization, especially in the face of uncertainty.

Implementation is where the planned change is executed. Maintaining open channels of communication is vital during this phase to manage expectations, provide support, and address any emerging challenges or uncertainties. Flexibility is key in this stage, allowing for adjustments in response to feedback or unforeseen circumstances.

Finally, the Evaluation phase involves assessing the impact of the change. Continuous communication helps gather feedback, which is essential for understanding the effectiveness of the change initiative and how the organization adapted to uncertainties. This stage offers valuable lessons for future change management efforts.

My leadership philosophy is a dynamic framework that guides my actions in today’s ever-changing environment. It blends three core leadership approaches: Humble Leadership, Servant Leadership, and Strategic Leadership.

Humble Leadership emphasizes humility and the idea that leadership insights can come from anyone, regardless of their title. It highlights the value of building trust-based relationships and learning from experts in various fields.

Servant Leadership, akin to Humble Leadership, empowers individuals to make informed decisions and develop their skills. It prioritizes nurturing people’s talents over controlling outcomes and provides the support needed for personal growth.

Strategic Leadership centers on effective communication and aligning actions with the organization’s vision and mission. It emphasizes the importance of clearly articulating the value of our work in achieving organizational goals and serving customers effectively.

These three approaches form the foundation of my leadership style, promoting collaboration, personal growth, and organizational success in a changing world.

In my role as a performance practitioner, I take on the responsibility of leading, coaching, and training individuals within the educational sector. My primary mission is to cultivate a culture of continuous learning among administrators, principals, teachers, and instructional staff. I firmly believe that leading by example is the most effective way to instill the value of lifelong learning and personal growth.

By embodying the principles of continuous learning in my own professional journey, I set the standard for those I work with. I showcase the tangible benefits of ongoing development and the positive impact it has on our ability to provide the best possible education for our students.

Through my leadership and mentorship, I create a community of educators who are deeply committed to their own growth and the advancement of our educational institutions. This commitment extends to promoting equity and diversity in every facet of our work. By collectively embracing continuous learning, we empower ourselves to address the evolving needs of our diverse student body and create a more inclusive and equitable educational environment.

“We do not get to choose how we start out in life. We do not get to choose the day we are born or the family we are born into, what we are named at birth, what country we are born in, and we do not get to choose our ancestry.

All these things are predetermined by a higher power…. It’s important, therefore, that you focus on the future, the only thing that you can change.”
—Idowu Koyenikan
